Fatigue, Durability, and Mechanical Testing
Performance:
Performance tests are useful to assess system and component characteristics under various controlled conditions. Component level testing can be performed in the laboratory using caliper stands, environmental or temperature control chambers, durability stands, quasi-static stands, or stress-strain measuring devices. Vehicle level testing is available on road, and track.
- SAE, ECE, JASO, JIS and Others: Standards related to performance characteristics such as leakage, pressure drop, fluid or volume displacement at different or increasing pressure, travel versus input pressure versus output load, low or elevated temperature characteristics.
- Client Directed or Developmental Procedures: Performance characterization protocols developed and executed in cooperation with clients to address specific testing needs. LINK can follow an existing documented test protocol or design and develop a test plan to meet customer test objectives. Components can be placed on temperature or environmentally-controlled chambers or submerged in fluids during testing.
Fatigue, Durability, and Biaxial:
Test methods for fatigue life prediction or minimum life confirmation are part of regular product development and validation programs. LINK has resources to assess fatigue life under fixed frequency and load amplitude or following load spectra for the component or system under testing. Vehicle testing for whole system durability on on-road and off-road courses support product sign-off and release activities.
- SAE, ECE, JASO, JIS and Others: Standards related to fixed sinusoidal loading at different amplitudes or g-levels, frequency sweeps to detect natural frequencies for s-cam brake return springs, brake calipers or wheel brake cylinders, air actuators, master cylinders, bearings or varying loading for components as varied as bearings, hubs, knuckles, or axles, among others. Hub fatigue and biaxial testing for wheels and bearings are part of this group of testing using special-purpose test systems.
- Client Directed or Developmental Procedures: fatigue and durability testing conducted to address specific client requirements. LINK can develop special test programs, fixtures, and durability cycles to assess component fatigue behavior, failure modes, characteristic life, and minimum life calculations.
Mechanical properties:
Link can apply relevant design and testing expertise to evaluate components or sub-systems using a controlled laboratory environment and the ProLink suite of control and acquisition software configured to create a test system to measure quasi-static properties of automotive components.
- SAE, JIS and others: Standards related, but not limited to stiffness, load versus displacement curves, spring rates, peel-off loads, stress-strain curves, ultimate load, and proof load validation.
- Client Directed or Developmental Procedures: LINK can both follow an existing documented test protocol or design and develop a test plan to meet customer test objectives, special evaluations and measurements as part product design, validation, verification, and release programs.
