Job Description

Primary Function: Customer advocate for brake testing services. This engineering position coordinates, communicates, reports, and support all the testing activities for a group of external customers. The project engineer is part of an Engineering Unit that, as a team, manages and coordinates all testing activities for a group of external customers.

As a Project Engineer, you will be involved in standardized or development inertia-dynamometer, components, wet friction, or sample testing for physical properties, as the core assignments. This position ensures the accurate, reliable, technical, and timely execution of testing and the corresponding generation of test reports to the customer.


Candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Follow company policies, internal operating procedures (workflow), and applicable items from the ISO 17025 quality system during the entire testing process.
  • Review initial customer requests, assess testing capabilities required, and assess main resources required to perform the tests.
  • Review and discuss with external customer and internal staff any issues or concerns during the testing process.
  • Prepare and discuss with customer test proposals, quotations, test plans, and test schedules.
  • Locate, secure, obtain, and verify test parts and test fixtures required for testing.
  • Coordinate the design or fabrication of standard or special test fixtures.
  • Perform minor editing of control programs required for testing.
  • Stage standard or special performance, wear, and NVH testing.
  • Confirm proper test and brake setup, verify correct system operation, and perform regular monitoring of test execution.
  • Review test results to ensure correctness and completeness per customer's request and test procedure
  • Generate final test report using ProLink® and MS Excel and explain test results to the customer.
  • Create, maintain, and modify Excel-based test report templates for various brake test procedures.
  • Work with other support or software engineers and management to create data processing macros, create and modify custom data analysis functions or develop special functions per customer's request or test procedure.
  • Observe current processes to find innovative solutions to improve process quality, system documentation, efficiency, and customer perceived quality.
  • Work with other engineers and managers to implement improvement initiatives and follow-up on its effectiveness.

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate will have experience and competency in the following areas:

  • Brake system or brake component testing following international, national, or company laboratory procedures.
  • Transfer written procedures and requirements into actual test setup and appropriate test reports at the completion of the test.
  • Write well-documented test procedures, work instructions and laboratory-level documentation and forms.
  • Interface with laboratory test equipment controls system and software during test execution.
  • Communicate, explain, and support internal staff involved in the daily testing activities.
  • Manage and prioritize a substantial work load by identifying project priorities and providing realistic timelines.
  • Interpersonal skills for working in a multi-function team environment.
  • Leverage and network with other corporate and external resources to provide timely and cost-effective solutions.
  • High-quality oral and written communication skills.
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering with 3+ years of experience in a related field.
  • Availability for occasional short trips (one week or less), mainly in the continental U.S.
  • Desired, but not required skills/experience: Experience in brake testing (performance, durability, mechanical, NVH testing) for passenger cars, light- and medium-duty trucks, commercial vehicles; ProLINK® Software Suite (ScriptEdit, VSI, VSI2, RevDATA PLUS, ReportAssist); AutoCAD 2D and 3D; MS Project, Minitab or similar statistics suite; and advanced MS Office macros programming.
