Brake Dynamometer – Test Part Preparation and Test Set-Up

This hands-on course will review the basics of test part preparation including thermocouple installation and wear measurements. Proper fit and function of test parts will be completed along with full machine test set-up.

  1. Thermocouple installation – Review the basics of installation on various types of test parts including pads with both one and two piston calipers, shoes, vented and solid discs, and drums.
  2. Basics of caliper rebuilding.
  3. Fit and function a set of parts on fixture with driver. Review fixture and driver types.
  4. Wear measurement preparation and execution including thickness, weight, and rotor mappings.
  5. Installation of the fixture, driver and parts on the machine. This will also include how to enter test information (header), inertia changes, and setting LRO (lateral run out).
  6. Basics of probe installation for DTV (Disc Thickness Variation) as well as microphone and accelerometer set-up.
  7. Review basic initial test monitoring.

Two-day ProLINK training focuses on the main software components used to properly run and review testing on LINK dynamometers. Emphasis is placed on day-to-day test operation. Exercises are given at each step to review concepts learned.

Day 1 (Morning) – ProLink & testing overview, test start-up (Configuration Manager / DynoView)

Day 1 (Afternoon) – ScriptEdit
Review the basics of programming for Link Dynamometers. Emphasis will be placed on VSI2 (Visual Scripting Interface 2), but classic code and VSI1 will also be discussed.

Day 2 (Morning) – RevDataPlus
All major aspects Link’s main data review tool will covered including summary data, in-stop data, noise, and select machine specific features.

Day 2 (Afternoon) – ReportAssist
The process of calculating Link reports will be shown followed by basic template creation using Link ReportAssist functions.

This class will review the basics of Disc Thickness Variation (DTV), Brake Torque Variation (BTV), and Brake Roughness. Definitions of each as well as evaluation methods and different types of summary reporting will be covered in detail. Advanced topics for future vehicle and brake system development will also be discussed. Examples will show both vehicle and dynamometer testing.
